Windows 365

In this blog, we are talking about Windows 365 a cloud-based version of Microsoft Windows that can be streamed to any device.

This month’s wise word is:

Defrag is short for ‘defragment’. Over time, information on your computer becomes ‘fragmented’ or moved, which slows your computer down. When you use the defrag tool on your computer, it moves them back into more easily accessed clusters.

What is Windows 365?

“Windows 365 combines the power and security of the cloud with the versatility and simplicity of the PC. From contractors and interns to software developers and industrial designers, Windows 365 enables a variety of new scenarios for the new world of work.”- Microsoft

How does it work?

Windows 365 allows you to access a windows pc from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. So, you can have a basic office machine to a powerful editing PC, depending on your needs.

This is possible because Microsoft keeps the computer stored and maintained by their staff. You are then given a login, this means you can access the computer from a mobile device or another pc. This means it doesn’t matter what the specifications of the device that you are using to access windows 365 are.

Flexibility is a big advantage to windows 365 as it allows users to configure their pc how they like and upgrade components at the click of a button. For example, if you start using a new program that is very intensive on the CPU and the current one is not up to the task you can go to your account and choose a different CPU that is more suitable.

It is a cost effective solution for those who need high-end PC’s because you do not need to buy expensive machines/ components and then replace them as they become outdated. A user can choose a subscription package that provides them with the hardware they feel they need.

Makes hybrid working easier as there is no need to transport a computer around. Therefore, the user can leave their workstation at work come home and log back into the system on their home laptop and carry on from exactly where they left off.

The major drawback to Windows 365 is the need for a good internet connection for the product to work. If you don’t have internet then you can’t log on and start using your pc. A bad internet connection can make response times slow and this will lead to a bad experience with the product.

The other Drawback is that it is all based on a subscription model you cannot purchase this product as a one-time payment. This means that instead of having the cost to replace a computer every 5 years. For example, a business will now have to pay out for the service monthly. Microsoft’s basic package over a 5 year period will cost a user around £1400. So this cost is significantly higher than a basic computer if you bought a new one every 5 years. Therefore, when you add the cost of buying a device to stream Windows 365, the cost to a user can be extremely expensive.
